Your typical broasted chicken type estblishment. It seems whenever I come here they are cooking to order however sometimes the temperatures on things are inconsistent. Sometimes the potatoes are overdone, or sometimes underdone. The chicken is sometimes the same way. But it doesn't happen all that often, and it's still usually pretty tasty, so 4 stars it is.

Greasy chicken ain't bad. Its a nice change from Chicken Shack/KFC/etc in my opinion, and their portions are pretty generous. Its really easy to get a full meal here for about $6, thats including leftovers. However, both previous reviewers have a great point: its cooked differently (like Loreen said), but is way way greasier than KFC (like Matt said). I don't mind it, especially their broasted potatoes are the only to come close to the glory of T-Birds old broasted potatoes. Their coleslaws isn't big and chunky and thick and creamy, but instead small chunks with a little bit of a runny consistency.. this isn't a bad thing though, as its totally delicious and something I could probably eat a full order of on my own. We've actually had many party dishes from them, ranging from my sisters graduation party to larger family gatherings. The quality is consistent, which is nice, and the portions are very generous. I will recommend staying away from their chicken strips, they don't taste right. Chewier, less crunchy, sometimes dry... not the best. But the chicken legs/wings/etc are really good. Don't expect service to shock you, or amaze you, in any way. Its staffed by lots of teenage looking people, and well, yeah. They get the job done, your food is prepared properly and timely, they don't cheat you, etc. Its definitely average service, but thats better than lots of other places. Consistency and a different take on the "chicken shack" style eatery give these guys 4 stars. You have solid food, great selection of sides, good, in not surprisingly competitive prices, and great party trays. 1 star off for those freaking chicken strips. They disappoint me a lot.

I prefer this over Chicken Shack. Not as greasy. Just wish they had more locations! So Good!

No heat lamps on their chicken! It's worth the wait. Great flavor and very little breading.

This is a great place to grab lunch especially if your famished! They have a $4.99 lunch special that includes a chicken or fish sandwich, broasted potatoes or fries and 16 oz drink. The place resembles the Chicken Shack chain only this is a family owned business. North Shack doesn't skimp on portion either the sandwich will literally have about a half pound of chicken! A cool thing I read on their website is how broasting cooks chicken thoroughly. And this method also has less fat and grease than fried or rotisserie chicken. (I'll take less fat without sacrificing taste any day!) Buckets and party trays can also be ordered and the prices are reasonable. They also have a drive thru window.

Great chicken, ribs and fish. BBQ is awesome! They also have good specials on Mon & Tues. Only thing I don't like here is the cole slaw. If we buy that, I add some of my own vinegar to it and it is then great. Hollywood Market which is right across the street also has awesome broasted chicken for cheaper and if you are looking for even better fish...the best place around is the alibi in Troy off of Rochester Rd. Best fish in Oakland/Macomb county even if it is a little pricey. Love North Shack! PS...They have a drive thru windo. Best way to do it is call them, order and then go and pick up.

Best chicken joint .......

Best fried shrimp I have ever had! The rib combo platter was perfect and this was close to closing time. Highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner. I will definitely come back for more!

Solid 4 stars for their chicken tenders, slaw, and broasted potatoes! Everything was delicious and a good portions for what you pay. 16 chicken tenders (they're huge and no breading) 1lb of potatoes, a bucket of slaw and a small order of mozzarella sticks was about $35! Fed a family of 4 perfectly with leftovers. The chicken was really juicy and I'm shocked on the size of each one- they were literally huge! Potatoes needed a little salt/seasoning but other than that this place is great! I would highly recommend checking them out if you're in the mood for a great chicken tender :)

I am not a fan of chicken shack, however north shack is a different bird. Chicken was very juicy and had a ton of flavor and the sauce alone was 5 stars. Combine everything I said plus make lunch 5.99 with a drink potatoes and roll. It was perfect. When I'm not at Chicken King on the west side of town I'll definitely come here for my chicken cravings.

My family has been going here for probably 20 years now. I became a vegetarian, but when I was younger I remember them having the best ribs ever! And their potatoes and mushrooms are the best. My husband loves the bbq chicken. They do have amazing bbq sauce. We have never been disappointed here.

Great chicken, ribs and broasted potatoes! Never had a bad meal!

I have eaten here a couple of times. I think overall the flavor is really good, but the chicken is SO greasy I can barely stomach two pieces. The boasted potatoes are a good enough reason to come back. Wait time can be a little excessive though.

Always great chicken hot and crispy. Best carry out in the Rochester area. Fast service too.

Been here 4 times in the last two weeks. If you count the two times Today. LOL. First, because we didn't want to make dinner. Chicken is Always good. Crispy and Done. Yummy. second time last week, hubby wanted his normal Chicken Thighs, I had the 1/2 Slab of Ribs . Hubby kept looking over, drooling, and eyeballing my ribs. Waiting to see if I said I was " Just too Full" to eat anymore. Like that was going to happen !! If you have ever had North Shacks Fabulous Ribs, YOU ALL KNOW, as Soon as you Smell that sauce, Your MOUTH WATERS. While hubby was eating his 4 pieces of Chicken, I CAVED IN ! Heck I still had my Yummy COLE SLAW, and a few Broasted Potato's left over yet. So very Politely I asked " WOULD YOU LIKE TO TASTE THE RIBS ? LOL, That was it, He Was Done With Chicken. He moaned so loud, I was glad I had the doors closed & the air conditioner on. The neighbors would have thought other than Dinner was going on here. He said he has eaten Ribs in so Many States, "BUT, THESE WERE THE BEST HE HAS EVER HAD IN HIS LIFE" Fall off the bone, rich in Flavor, suck your fingers clean ! GOOD! Now he ask every other day, " How about Ribs for dinner" I just laugh at him, and say sure. Today, I ordered 36 pieces of chicken at 11:30, for pickup at noon. For my Family Reunion. Everyone was happy to see me coming. They all know I will bring the chicken from North Shack! On the way home from the large Family Reunion, were we were to busy visiting, and ate way too light. Hubby ASK " HOW ABOUT SOME RIBS FROM NORTH SHACK " I think we have created a Rib Monster Over the years I have had North Shack food probably 20 times a year. I am so glad I don't work for you ! We both would weight a ton!

I had a fish sandwich, fries and a lemonade. It was a really good fish sandwich - definitely better than fast food. My only problem was the chubby young lad working the drive-thru didn't give me any napkins in my bag. And things got a little messy eating in the car.

Bad food greasy chicken. Easily sums up Chicken Shack. Their chicken is very very greasy. Not fried chicken greasy, or even KFC greasy, no we are talking a new kind and form of greasy. I do not know how a chicken place manages to get dry and greasy chicken in one.
(2)Darth V.
Good broasted potatoes, but everything else is terrible. The chicken is gross and the fish and chips has dark meat. Yes, the fish is the worst quality you can get in a fish fillet. A fillet -O-fish is better at Mac Donald's. Yuck, yuck , yuck. Just try the fish and surely you will never go back. Its a rip off too.

Stopped in for the multiple daily $5.99 lunch specials Unusual for me to accept /overcooked or undercooked food, but we were more than hungry & plowed through the perch & shrimp snacks. It was good, but severely well done... The chicken tender ordered ala carte was very good, moist & not burnt
(2)Naomi D.
Pretty good food, the potatoes were a little dry for me. The chick is delicious but a bit salty. But the best part about this place is that your food is never greasy! Always made fresh and they have some pretty good deals! They also have a drive-through if you're in a bit of a rush! I just wish they has mashed potatoes and gravy it would be perfect with the chicken! Definitely worth checking out!
(4)Michael P.
Always good. Love the chicken and shrimp. Be prepared to wait as most is cooked to order. 7 lunch specials.
(4)Chris A.
The best chicken place on the north side. Also, probably the best soul food. Or at least, the best soul food I've had. Prepare some after-dinner time to rest when you're done eating North Shack -- all the fried food will wear you right out. I'm not sure if North Shack is related to the Chicken Shack restaurants that dot the west side of the metro Detroit area, or what. They have the same food and the same color scheme... it's a conspiracy, I guess! Anyway, everything North Shack offers is wonderful. It can get a little pricey in high quantities but it's worth it. I've only ever gotten take-out and never ate my fill in their tiny sit-down area, so I can't comment on that. The take-out line never seems busy, which is a plus, and the location is just off M-59, with entrances from Dequindre and Auburn. Highly recommended, would eat again!

North Shack has great lunch specials. I get the chicken sandwich and the potato's. The food is better then the other Chicken place. Plus it's near my house and my work.
